Staff

Mayor - Larry Hinsley

Mayor Larry Hinsley was elected to his first term in May 2021 and began his second term in May of 2023. He is a 1967 graduate of Rivercrest High School and holds an Associate’s Degree from Paris Junior College and a Bachelor’s Degree from West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. He proudly served in the military as an Army, Medical Lab Technician, and achieved the rank of Specialist - E5. Mayor Hinsley retired as a Medical Laboratory Director from Memorial Hospital in Lufkin, Texas in 2016, and returned to live and serve the citizens in Bogata in 2017. He began his civic duties in October of 2020 when he decided to seek a seat on the City Council. He then was elected as Mayor in May 2021. Mayor Hinsley will continue to serve as he is unopposed in the May 2025 election cycle. His 3rd term will run until May 2027.

City Council

The City Council is composed of five Bogata city residents who are elected in at large elections. The council is led by the Mayor, along with 5 city residents elected for two-year terms in alternating years. General elections are held on the first Saturday in May and are open to all eligible residents of the City. A Mayor Pro Tem is chosen by the council to preside in the event of the Mayor’s absence.

City Council Meetings

  • The City Council of the City of Bogata, Texas will elect one of its members as Pro Tem. The Bogata City Council regular meetings are at 7:00 PM on the first Monday of each month, unless it falls on a Monday holiday or conflicts with other plans. They will have “called” or “emergency” meetings as required. All meetings are open to the public and the agendas and announcements are posted in accordance with the State of Texas Open Meetings Act. A majority of the Council members is necessary to constitute a quorum for conducting business. Workshops will be scheduled on an “as needed’ basis.
